Ideas

sage at makuuEverything starts as an idea.

We decided to help our three sons start a business several years ago, because at some point they are going to grow up and have to make their own way in this hyper-speed global economy and as self-employed entrepreneurs there are so many things we wish we learned at a much younger age.

Because they are crazy in love with BMX racing, that became the focal point, motivation, and driving force  – their “WHY”, you might say.

Sitting at the school table in Hawaii with calendar books, flipping ahead several months we stare at the blank pages that will be filled with our time in Oregon. We mark off how many times a week they’ll race and how many months we’ll be in Oregon.

A bit of multiplication, a simple list of expenses: local race fees, State Qualifier fees, gas, hotels, misc bike parts, and we have our budget along with our very first goal – a 4-figure financial one.

One unnamed boy at the table starts to cry, another says, “That’s WAAAAAYYYYYYYYY too much money we could NEEEEVER do that!!!!!”

Sagey, our rock steady middle son, says simply,

We can do it, I know we can.”

An idea. An attitude. A direction. It takes courage to seek ideas because undoubtedly they will move us past where we are right now, comfortable in familiarity.

First goal made, gives way to a second goal reached, and a third goal accomplished. We pray for more ideas, bigger ideas. We pray for inspiration and the courage to move forward – nothing happens without action.

How do we react to seemingly huge challenges? Let’s be honest with each other, are you a crier, a whiner, or do you claim future victory with confidence?

Each one of these reactions are an idea. And, Friend, everything starts with an idea.

Claim victory over fear by having a laser focus on possibility – it’s truly the only idea worthy of your energy.
